My name is Antonia Briguglio, I am an architect and founder of Fagruminda, a citrus sweetness brand created by me in 2015.
I belong to a family that has been producing and marketing citrus fruits for six generations here in Sicily.
I produce different varieties of citrus fruits, artisan jams prepared with the fresh fruits of my citrus groves and shortbread biscuits with extra virgin olive oil and essential citrus oils.
The high quality of my products is accompanied by packs in fresh Sicilian style, extra-chic, with pastel colors and vintage inspiration.
Mine is a small farm, with an extension of about 5 ha.
The citrus groves are found in the province of Messina in Alì Terme, in the Famà, Serro or Falcò and Capo d’Alì districts and in Fiumedinisi, in the Roccabisazza district.
The laboratory for the production of citrus jams is in Saponara and the one for biscuits with essential citrus oils in Mandanici, always in the province of Messina.
I am a producer mainly of INTERDONATO LEMON.
The Interdonato is a plant obtained by grafting between Cedar and Lemon. The grafting was carried out in the years between 1875 and 1880 by Colonel Giovanni Interdonato in his citrus grove in Alì Terme, in the Reitana district, just a stone’s throw from my citrus grove in the Famà district.
This fruit is very similar to cedar, the rind is sweet, the flesh has a delicate and slightly acidic flavor and the skin has a very fine grain, an unusual feature for Sicilian lemons. Precisely for this reason it is also called “Fine or Special Lemon” (my great-grandparents Domenico Barbera and Lorenzo D’Arrigo exported it with the denomination “extra fine”, as can be read on the old posters, published on the next page).
In addition to the main cultivar of Interdonato I produce:
NOSTRAL LEMONS AND MUNACHEDDI
TAROT ORANGES, VANILLA, VALENCIA, RED AND OVAL
COMMON CLEMENTINE AND NOVA CLEMENTINE
PINK GRAPEFRUITS
CEDRI
LATE MANDARINS
NOSTRALI OLIVES with which I make a small production of extra virgin olive oil
My citrus groves produce healthy and genuine fruits that ripen in a unique microclimate, characterized by the breeze of the Ionian Sea, the fresh air of the stream and the wonderful and warm sun of Sicily!
They are grown with the integrated method, which is the traditional one in use in the area and which observes the rules of “normal good agricultural practice” provided by the Sicilian Region in accordance with EU regulations on agri-environmental matters.
All my production respects the natural seasonality and for this reason the quantities are limited. The citrus fruits that I grow grow and mature in an absolutely natural way, the fruits are not treated with ethylene, imazalil, waxes and anything else so you can also use their zest (to prepare liqueurs, jams, to flavor sweets etc …)
Precisely because my citrus fruits are not treated, it is good to keep them in a cool place, such as the balcony of the house in winter or in the refrigerator, to make them last fresh and fragrant a few more days.
